Travel still isn’t quite what it used to be…so instead of jetting off abroad this year, we’re making the most of our wonderful capital city’s luxury hotels. Swapping golden sands for glowing skylines and blue waves for red buses, there’s no better place than London if you’re on the hunt for a weekend away.

This is the city that has it all: from the famous London spa breaks to the boutique hotels perfectly located for exploration, it’s easy to check in to one of these spots below for a few nights and find yourself transported away on a holiday that’s just as exciting as one abroad.

Not sure where to start? We’ve put together our favourite hotels in London for a fancy weekend away. Read on and be prepared to refuel your wanderlust.

The Mandrake is eclectic and vibrant: undoubtedly one of London’s coolest hotels situated in the heart of Fitzrovia. Everything about The Mandrake is pretty swish, from its modern, velvet-adorned interiors through to the private art collection that you’ll admire as you wander through the hotel.

While the beds here might be renowned for being ridiculously comfortable, you’ll still want to spend most of your time here in the jungle-themed courtyard, where the cocktails are flowing and the dishes are equally as incredible. And, of course, you’re in a great position for exploring all that London has to offer from this hotel’s great location.

There’s nothing really stopping you from checking in at The Ned and not leaving this fancy member’s club hotel until you’re ready to check out. Almost 10 restaurants means you’d never get bored or ever really have to have the same meal twice.

And that’s before you even take into consideration all of the other features that this luxury London hotel has to offer: a spa, hammam, rooftop swimming pool and gym. Each room comes with classy and elegant decor: suave enough to make you feel traditional and olde-English-esque but modern enough to keep you sleeping comfortably in the 21st century.

Expect a healthy dose of all things London at the aptly named London Edition hotel. If you’re looking for a luxury hotel in London that exemplifies all that the capital city has to offer, you can’t beat this one.

The London Edition sits just off of Tottenham Court Road, stately and thoughtful with established touches and almost unbeatable service. You’ll also find a little of everything here when it comes to design. The rooms are modern and laidback while the exteriors and restaurants come with pillars, sweeping, decorated ceilings and expertly gilded accents. This boutique hotel in London is not to be missed.

You might be more familiar with Nobu for its dining potentials but it’s not to be sniffed at for its luxury accommodation, either. Nobu Portman Square is the place to stay for a luxury break in London with at least one shopping trip included. Why? It’s based in Marylebone, just a few steps from Oxford Street and therefore brilliant for collapsing into bed after you’ve done your 10,000 steps checking out the shops.

Keep in mind you’ll also be collapsing back onto 400-thread count sheets and custom-made mattresses. As you might expect from the Nobu brand, the famed Japanese restaurant inside the hotel is also accompanied with Japanese tea and Yukata robes.

11 Cadogan Gardens is set in the heart of Chelsea and is just as classy as you’d expect from such a location. One of the best hotels in London if you’re someone who appreciates historic touches, 11 Cadogan Gardens is a wonder to explore and take in its marvellous design.

It’s actually four converted Victorian townhouses masquerading as a hotel, which gives it a unique touch not spotted quite as often in London. Expect homely touches fused with spacious, cosy rooms and the feeling like you’ve been invited to stay in a rich friend’s apartment for a couple of days.

Shangri-La is synonymous with luxury all over the world and the London hotel, based inside The Shard, is a perfect example of just that. An incredible experience from the moment you step out of the lift on the 34th floor right through until you check out, the Shangri-La is a brilliant hotel in London for anyone looking to go all out.

Of course, it goes without saying that the views here are spectacular. But that’s not all: Shangri-La also comes with an infinity pool overlooking the London skyline and a swish bar on the 52nd floor. Just staying here is an experience in itself.

Check into The Lanesborough and experience instant relaxation. One of London’s most famed hotels, this beautiful spot looks out onto Hyde Park and is also home to one of the city’s most relaxing spas. Everything here is sumptuous and smooth, like the huge range of treatments available in the wellness centre, the Michelin-starred restaurant, Céleste, and its unique cigar lounge.

Being such a famous hotel means it goes without saying that The Lanesborough is based in one of London’s most traditional neighbourhoods. Just a short walk away is Harrods and all of the other luxury stores that Brompton Road has to offer.

Courthouse Shoreditch will put you in the best kind of predicament of whether to spend your time lapping up all this hotel has to offer or whether you should make good use of its brilliant location and head out to explore. The trick is to save enough time to do both.

The unique history of this hotel – a converted Baroque building that used to be the Old Magistrates Court and Police Station – means you’ll probably spend your downtime here having an extensive Google search of its past. Head outside for all that East London has to offer: bars, clubs, pop-up events, shopping and art.

A quick look at images of The Landmark and you’ll assume it’s located in a beautiful city in southern Europe or perhaps the Middle East. In actual fact, it’s in Marylebone.

The palm trees, whitewashed walls and general air of tranquility here instantly transport you away from the capital city, while the timeless British elegance, classical designed rooms and perfect location will bring you back to the heart of London. Those on the hunt for a London hotel with beautiful decor need look no further than the doors of The Landmark.
